Shay Mitchell is Filipina descent, and her father is of Scottish/Irish origins. Mitchell is her cousin to Lea Salonga the renowned musical theater actor and singer. Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary for her early childhood, before transferring to West Vancouver Secondary. The actress had already been modeling across the world in her early teens. She travelled to Barcelona, Bangkok, Hong Kong and then returned to Toronto and began her studies in acting.
